Anonymous strikes at chinese governement websites(#opchina)

The hacktivist group Anonymous launched an attack on 30 Chinese governmental websites in order to protest the October 2014 arrests of 5 hacktivists who were supporting the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong and faced the accusation of diverting a large volume of internet traffic towards the Hong Kong’s government website. The protests in Hong Kong started in the month of September 2014 against the rules imposed by the mainland Chinese government rules and despite the fact that the government has been able to suppress the movement, the protests still continue.

Anonymous declared the launch of Operation China, a DDoS or Distributed Denial of Service campaign targeting the Chinese government’s websites. The campaign was launched on 10th April after the arrest of the 5 hacktivists and the 30 websites which were brought down are a part of this campaign. DDoS attacks are attacks which divert heavy traffic towards the websites which results in a large number of queries for the website. As a result, the server gets overloaded and blocks the queries of even genuine users.

Anonymous has claimed that the protests were one of the most peaceful protests and yet the protesters were harassed by the government and pro China groups. Even the police did not defend the peaceful protesters who were being attacked and harassed and hence Anonymous wants to do its bit to support the protesters.

Among the websites which were brought down were the government websites for several cities in China which include Fengshun County and Huazhou in Guangdong, Cili County in Hunan and Wulian County in Shangdong. Along with these websites, the websites of China Telecom and Hunan Police Academy were also brought down.

These attacks on the website are against the Chinese government’s rules which do not allow any kind of offline or online dissent against the government.

Anonymous shows"how to identify ISIS twitter users"(#opisis)

A hacktivist group which calls itself anonymous has stated that its fight against the Islamic State and the supporters of IS is its biggest campaign ever. Anonymous is targeting the online presence of IS and identifying the Twitter accounts of IS supporters and sympathisers. The group calls its campaign Operation ISIS or Opisis and they are collecting data of the thousands of the Twitter accounts of ISIS and IS supporters.

As a part of this campaign, they published a list of more than 25000 Twitter accounts of pro-ISIS groups on 31st March and subsequently on 10th April; they published a list websites of pro-ISIS groups as well as the list of their web hosting services. The list was published by GhostSec which is a faction of the Anonymous group. The list published names of web hosting services which included Yahoo!, Google, CloudFare and Godaddy.com.

Anonymous is seeking help from individuals around the globe and has been requesting them to identify pro-ISIS Twitter accounts. They have published a guide for the purpose of identification of such accounts. As per the guide, there are three important steps involved in identifying the Twitter accounts of pro-ISIS entities.

The steps are:

•   Identification of an ISIS or a pro-ISIS account
•   Collecting the names of the accounts and the URLs and creating a list
•   Reporting the list to Anonymous

There are however certain issues relating to identifying such accounts as there is a possibility that many of these may not actually be pro-ISIS accounts. There has been no official comment so far from Twitter. However, a research associate with the Council of Foreign Relations, Emerson Brooking has suggested that the US government must help organisations like Anonymous to fight the nemesis of pro-ISIS groups and their online presence since the government themselves have failed so far to fight the online presence of such groups.

A hacker namely @aerithxor hacked the official website of Ottawa city,Canadian supreme court and Ottawa police.as there was special reason behind this hack.The target was hacked under the operation namely #OPSOARINGEAGLE .This operation #OPSOARINGEAGLE was launched against the arrest of 16 year old kid allegedly using social media to around spread terrorism hoax around the country.
The anonymous hacker(@aerithxor)has left personal details of officer involved in the arrest of 16 year old kid.
The hacked website were shut down through the massive ddos attack.THE anonymous hacker(@aerithxor) left special message on the deface page of the hacked websites.
