5 Best Ways to Secure Mobile Users

As mobile devices have become essential part of human life, soon it will be used as a tool for the employee to enhance their productivity. While workplace flexibility and convenience is increasing, mobile employees are actually putting enormous amounts of company data at risk. Most of the time employees use third party applications, ignores security updates, access unprotected network connections that leave personal and corporate data at risk and become the easiest target for the cyber criminals.

To reduce such risk from employee end, Alvaro Hoyos, the Chief Information Security Officer at OneLogin has suggested some tips that will surely enable organizations to double check the mobile user’s and the employee’s security.

Realistic Security Policies:

The organizations should prefer more reliable and realistic policies, if they implement policies that are rigged as compare to organization’s maturity, chances are that the employees will subvert or ignore them altogether.
Policies should be strict but also workable, so that it influence employee to follow the policy and get their work done. This is important when it comes to mobile users that operates cooperate applications on their Smartphone or tablets. Policies should be implemented for every device that is being used by the employees.

Multifactor authentication:

As many employees access their information and work for the organization from a remote location, it is most important to assure that right person is using the right information. For that Multi-factor authentication should be used that guarantees the access controls.
The hackers are evolving their attacking techniques; the only way to protect unauthorized access is to implement multi-factor authorization for mobile users to reduce the risk of any hacking incident.

Empower Employee:

Organizations deploy many automated detection systems that alerts them with any uncertain or unexpected activity. This process can spread to granular part of the organization that is employees. By empowering employees to become a part of the organization’s detection plan, employees will get to know about the activities they have direct control over, such as changing their password or logging in from a new location, it will help organization to make employee the part of the early detection plan.

Understanding the Risk of Mobility:

Mobile devices, whether those used by employees or by mobile users, should not be the primary or users with complete access or should be carrying organizational confidential information. The organizations should consider the risk of stolen or misplaced devices, that how devastating it could be. To overcome this critical issue, mobile user should protect their devices with a trusted SaaS solution. Additionally, documents on mobile systems should be backed up on a daily basis.
Furthermore, policies should be defined for the mobile end users that what data can be copied to mobile devices and what data should never leave those same systems.

Continuous Monitoring and tracking:

As employees are accessing the systems from mobile devices in a huge number, it is possible that the device may get lost, stolen or misplaced. In such case asset tracking system should be implemented. No doubt these solutions are expensive, but worth investing to protect an organization’s asset from falling into the wrong hands.  Devices that are no longer in use or have been lost or stolen need to be tracked as well, in case they reappear on your network.

Just as making sure about which remote device is doing what from where, threats will be still there. Monitoring is the best option to expose the uncertain activities to prevent the employees to enter privileged mode or access the restricted information. Unauthorized mobile users can be devastating for any organization, so prevention techniques should be implemented to reduce this risk.

Looking For Prisma Android? Don’t Get Tricked by Malicious Apps

On of the most popular app now a days “Prisma” is entertaining its users with its unique feature of transforming image into painted work of art. The app initially was launched for iOS devices only. After receiving great response by users the app officially launched for android versions on 24th July.

The huge following of Prisma on iOS created hype for android users to get this app on their devices. The cyber criminals took advantage to this and uploaded multiple cloned malicious applications on Google Play Store before the official release.

Most of the fake applications found on Google Play Store didn’t have any photo transformation functionality; instead they displayed pop up ads and fake survey to gather information about users, such as phone number, operator name, country name, language and so on. Some actually had very basic photo editing functionality, but mainly streams pop-up ads and displayed fake alerts regarding phone security and version updates. After that, the embedded Trojan would request and download a Phishing module asking their Google credentials in order to upgrade to Android 6.0.

The ESET researcher’s team has discovered fake Prisma apps of different types that include several dangerous Trojan downloaders. The Google Play security team removed them from the official Android store at ESET’s notice. Prior to that point, Prisma copycats reached over 1.5 million downloads by fans.

There are more chances that a user likely to fall into the trap as cyber criminals does their best to fool and trick users to download their malicious apps with convincing logos and icons. The ESET offers some advice for staying safe when downloading apps:

Iris Scan to Validate Mobile Payments

Nowadays everyone is using mobile payment systems like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Payment systems like these uses bio-metric scans. The new bio-metric scan technologies beyond the use of fingerprint scan can boost the adaptation rate when purchases are made with smartphones. These technologies include palm vein sensors or sensors that assess the person’s typing pattern or behaviors.

Iris has developed a new technology that will help to authenticate online purchases. While SMS (Short Messaging Service) is an option, banks want more security to conduct transactions more securely.  That’s where Iris developed a multi-modal scan that will provide us with the voice and behavioral scans and facial integrations that might help for online purchase.

Smartphone vendors and payment software developers need to consider the new bio-metric technologies and multi-modal scan approach to provide concrete security. Tiffany Huang, an analyst at Lux Research said “Bio-metrics is needed to improve mobile payment usage and it’s hard to see one bio-metric usage winning in the medium-to-far-term”.

A US Federal Revenue survey of around 2000 people showed that 75% didn’t use mobile payments, as they feel more convenient to pay in cash or use their credit cards. While 59% don’t feel safe in using mobile payment for privacy and security concern.

As this new palm vein sensor is smart enough to prevent spoofing, but they are rare because of its size. They require a large piece of hardware to read the palm vein pattern. Huang said, “Palm veins are 100 times more unique than fingerprints and can't be easily spoofed because the veins are below the surface of the skin”.

The fingerprint scan sensor that are used in iPhone for Apple pay and other galaxy phones for Samsung pay are mature and are being used for years and its hardware is relatively cheap. But capacitive sensors can be spoofed easily by duplicating fingerprint pattern.

This is the main reason that encouraged Iris to develop new technology in the payment industry that ensures security at tits best without being spoofed. No doubt it requires some serious build hardware that may be costly, but not enough to put your customer at risk.

Exploring Vulnerabilities in HDMI

The HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) standard has gained extensive market penetration. Nearly every piece of modern home theater equipment has HDMI support and most modern mobile devices actually have HDMI-capable outputs, though it may not be obvious. Lurking inside most modern HDMI-compatible devices is something called HDMI-CEC, or Consumer Electronics Control. This is the functionality that allows a media device to, for example, turn on your TV and change the TV’s input. That doesn’t sound interesting, but as we'll see in this presentation, there are some very surprising things an attacker can do by exploiting CEC software implementations. Then there's something called HEC or HDMI Ethernet Connection, which allows devices to establish an Ethernet connection of up to 100Mbit/s over their HDMI connections (newer HDMI standards raise the speed to 1Gbit/s).

Don't think your mobile phone implements CEC? You might be wrong. Most modern Android-based phones and tablets have a Slimport(r) connection that supports HDMI-CEC. Ever heard of MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link)? Think Samsung and HTC (among other) mobile devices, and many JVC, Kenwood, Panasonic, and Sony car stereos – as many as 750 million devices in the world so far. Guess what? MHL supports HDMI-CEC as well. Let's explore:

Russia Demands Backdoor to Monitor Chats on Messaging App

Cyber security threats in Russia and its neighbors in the west are escalating. In the past few years, Russia violated many land borders by unannounced crossing and humiliating their privacy. Russia has been developing and employing offensive cyber capabilities for years. Russian cyber attacking groups consist of professionals, highly skilled practitioners, whose daily jobs are to prepare and carry cyber attacks.

Recently few days back, the Russian government is planning to pass a new mass surveillance bill, which will allow the Russian Federal Security Service to monitor the chats of every single messaging application in Russia.

In this bill, they demands the backdoor to every messaging app. The provider of apps like Whatsapp, Viber, Telegram and others are required to provide necessary backdoors to the government or they could face a fine of up to 1 million rubles.

The bill is suggested by Russian Senator Elena Mizulina, who said on a TV show that, she is deeply concerned about the closed chatrooms on messaging apps. Teenagers are being targeted, brain-washed by extremist to do criminal activities and different attacks.

This bill will help Russian government to monitor every messaging app to detect such chats that are suspicious or related to any terrorist. The bill has already been approved by Duma (a Russian’s lower Legislative House) and if this legislation is passed into law, then each and every messaging app must follow the law and provide backdoors to the government of face fine.

This bill also states that the citizens who complies decrypting electronic communication will face a fine range between 3000-5000 rubles, while officials who stand in the way can potentially be fined 30,000-50,000 rubles.

As we have already known that, Whatsapp already implemented end to end encryption to secure user’s communication from intruders. Viber also announced this feature to its messenger, but after this law government will be able to monitor all applications including those with End-to-End encryption. These applications now have to choose whether to make their services unavailable after this law or provide backdoors and compromise their customer’s privacy.

Is Apple’s iMessage Secure?

Apple Inc is the world’s largest information technology company, known by it’s outclass products and services. Apple with every release of its product, whether in hardware or software, advances in safety, security and data protection features.

One of its popular products includes iPhone, a line of series of smart-phones designed by Apple Inc. It runs iOS operating system on it which is also developed by Apple itself. Followed by many applications this phone has generated millions of revenue to the company.

iMessage is the application that is similar to the “Messages” application. It’s an instant messaging service provided by Apple to its users over multiple products like iPhone, iPad etc.

Few days back at WWDC (World Wide Developer’s Conference) Apple announced a great plan, updates for all of Apple’s products. iMessage replaced the traditional messaging language with emojis and easy pictures and videos share .

When we talk about these type of application, the first thing comes to our mind is the security aspect. Whether the sent message is securely received by the receiver or not. On this security issue, Apple has worked a lot and launched Device-Wide encryption previously. But in this new release Apple undoubtedly decided to move further.

Rich Mogull, CEO of security firm Securosis said “on the iOS side, they have done an incredible job, and it is now the most secure personal computing platform available, There are still vulnerabilities that crop up, but at the core iOS is rock solid.”

iMessage is the well known application that supports End- to-End encrypted messaging service. Like every application iMessage showing some loop holes. The researcher team at Apple recently breached the application and decrypted videos and images under some circumstances. They said “Definitely iMessage needs an update”. This vulnerability created a fear to the research team. As iMessage uses a centralized key server, making it easier to the man in middle to intercept the communication and pretend to be someone that he is not.

In iOS 10, the new released update for the iOS, Apple provided “Differential Privacy”. This enables iMessage, Facetime and other communication applications, compute their data on their personal device rather than on the server. This gives relatively high security when combined with End-to-End encryption. Differential privacy allows the company to collect user’s information to help enhancing its app and services while keeping the individual device private.

So once again Apple worked tremendously hard to resolve the privacy issue for their customers with some feature added to the new updates. This is the only reason that Apple is getting more popular and become the largest company in the world of IT.

OnePlus X Vs OnePlus One Review

OnePlus X Vs OnePlus One

After a slew of leaks and speculations, OnePlus has finally introduced an affordable handset in its prestigious smartphone lineup.

The new phone aka OnePlus X is a low cost smartphone in a high-end disguise. It packs an alluring design with a powerful processor, and has all essential elements to call itself one of the finest phones in the sub 20k category. But, the fun does not end here!
We all know that OnePlus X is not the only beast in the mid-range segment, and there are players like OnePlus One and Xiaomi Mi4 as well.  You can pick any of these beauties, but the fact is they all are very close in terms of hardware and software specs.

We already assume the stellar OnePlus X can go against the Mi4, but, it still remains to be seen how the new phone takes on its elder sibling, the original flagship killer, OnePlus One. So, let’s have a look on the spec of sheet of both devices, and see which one comes on the top.

Design and Build
The design of OnePlus One and OnePlus X is a real piece artwork. Both phones look fairly well crafted, and are way better than several mid-range phones rolling in the market. Last year, OnePlus One marked the sway of big screen phones with a humongous display and good looking sandstone finish, but this time around, the new “X” variant gives reminiscence of the iPhone 4, and brings a compact setup of metal and glass. It feels more premium than smartphones coming at the double of its price, and is fairly sleek and compact as well. Specifically, the new handset is 2mm thinner than the OnePlus One, and will come in two different finishes: Onyx and Ceramic.

The Black Onyx variant will flaunt rounded metal bezels with glass on the back, while the limited edition Ceramic variant will add a little more elegance with its beveled edges. OnePlus One, on the other end, came in two rear panel finishes, Sandstone Black and Silk White.

Display Quality
While the viewing experience remains exceptional, screen size creates a small line of difference between OnePlus One and OnePlus X. The new Glass built OnePlus X features a 5-inch AMOLED panel, while the old flagship killer OnePlus One sports a slightly bigger 5.5-inch LTPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. They both feature an identical screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, and produce vivid colors and better contrasts without any issues. Pixel Density is a minor difference, but that doesn’t really counts as both phones produce best results, indoors as well as outdoors.

Hardware and Performance
Under the hood, it’s a close call between OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X. The powerful OnePlus One powers up a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. It pairs up with 3GB RAM, and performs quite nicely without any lags or glitches. However, the irony is OnePlus X also powers up by the same processor. Despite coming one year later after OnePlus One, the new “X” variant features the same chipset without any upgrades. It clocks at 2.5GHz and pairs up with 3GB RAM for maintaining better performance standards than the recently launched Snapdragon 617 mediocre SoC.

Software
As expected, there is a big difference between the OS of both smartphones. OnePlus One runs Android Lollipop-based CyanogenMod OS, while OnePlus X operates under the proprietary Android Lollipop based Oxygen OS, the same that comes with the OnePlus 2. Many of us also expected Android 6.0 Marshmallow this time, but looks like, OnePlus is the big thing for its next high-end smartphone. However, the update for Marshmallow will be up and running on these phones as well.

Camera
OnePlus finally has a good news for selfie lovers. The rear camera OnePlus X is the same 13-megapixel shooter that comes with OnePlus One, but the front-facing snapper of the new phone brings a quintessential upgrade. The front-facing camera of OnePlus X features an 8-megapixel sensor, which is slightly better than the 5MP shooter of the OnePlus One. So, whether it’s a daytime or night time selfie, you’ll best results with enhanced pixel count and excellent color reproduction from this device.

Battery Support
Although both phones offer quite powerful, on-paper battery capacity still marks a major difference between them. The 3100mAh battery equipped with OnePlus One serves as a powerhouse and offers full day battery backup without running out charges. It’s absolutely perfect for heavy users, and can easily outperform several high-end phones without any issues. But, the case with OnePlus X is slightly different. The newly launched handset from the company houses a smaller 2,525mAh battery, and might not last for an entire day. It will do just fine on standard usage, but would need an external power source on heavy usage.

Price
In the Indian market, the 64GB variant of OnePlus One is hitting the shelves successfully at Rs. 19,999. The device is available on Amazon India, and does not require an invite to be purchased.
On the other side, the Onyx variant of OnePlus X will start rolling from November 5 exclusively via Amazon India. The device will be purchased through Invite system initially, but the company will hold occasional open sales as well. Its limited edition Ceramic variant with a better look and feel will come at a slightly higher price tag of Rs. 22,999 respectively.

Final Verdict
You can expect smooth performance from both phones, but the fact is, small differences add up and make OnePlus X slightly better than OnePlus One. Apart from battery capacity, there is no legitimate reason makes OnePlus X weaker than its predecessor. The new handset packs a better design and faster processor which, according to us, is more than enough to declare OnePlus X as a better option. And, not to forget, affordable pricing also plays a significant role in making of this handset.

So, if you’re feeling puzzled between OnePlus X and OnePlus One, as which one to pick, we suggest you to go with the new handset instead of the old one.

Graphics Technology Bolsters Mobile Gaming Growth

Graphics Technology Bolsters Mobile Gaming Growth

Mobile games are everywhere. They have proven so successful that sales have grown by nearly 50 percent in the last two years alone.

In fact, it's anticipated that they'll overtake console games this year in total revenue. Suffice to say, mobile games are here to stay and appear to be out for blood. Without people even realizing it, the mobile gaming industry has brought about a seismic shift in the
marketplace.

How an Industry Transformed Seemingly Overnight

The reasons for the unprecedented growth of mobile games are many, of course. Perhaps most simply, mobile devices are everywhere, so it stands to reason that mobile games would be, too. Consoles may provide cutting-edge graphics and immersive gameplay, but until people figure out how to take their 60” televisions with them on the bus, they'll be relegated to use at home. And this, of course, limits their appeal, accessibility, and numbers. Smartphones and tablets pose no such hurdle.

If outright volume and availability of devices are the primary factors that enable more people than ever to play video games, the play-for-free model is what drives so many people to actually commit. Once a player is hooked onto a mobile title, companies can then make back their investment with advertising and in-game sales. Finnish company Supercell Oy saw its revenue triple between 2013 and 2014 with the help of this model. And it's a model that is pretty much the exclusive domain of mobile gaming, which gives these titles an advantage over console and desktop games.

Finally, the one thing that seemed to hold so many mobile titles back when smartphones and tablets
first hit the market in earnest – the graphics – is now no longer a limiting factor. With advanced mobile GPUs, multi-core processors, and retina displays now commonplace, today's mobile games have graphics and gameplay that are comparable to console titles – and easily surpass those of titles from a decade ago.

Initially spurned as being only for “casual gamers,” mobile devices are now being seen as the future. This is due in part to the massive adoption numbers, no doubt, but also because the hardware is getting better. Industry heavy hitters like Qualcomm are even developing chipsets specifically for mobile gaming, which bodes well for the future of the marketplace.

Consoles Aren't Extinct Just Yet – But Mobile is Likely the Future Console games still have a lot going for them. It's easy to find articles out there predicting their demise, but the reality likely isn't so dour. Consoles offer two things that mobile devices can't or don't: better computing power and a much larger viewing screen. Of course, as mobile chipsets continue to get better, this advantage will be chipped away, and already some mobile devices can stream to television sets, so that won't be the sole domain of consoles for long either. But for now, the advantage goes to consoles.

And then there's the interface. Most mobile titles still rely on a touchscreen interface while console titles employ controllers or motion capture devices. It's anyone's guess whether or not these disparate ways of playing video games will merge at some point, or whether one will come out triumphant over the other. Currently, they allow both types of games to exist in a happy balance. It's fair to say that console games aren't like mobile games, and vice versa. This works to both markets' advantage. But the writing does appear to be on the wall. Revenue from mobile games, in-app purchases, and advertising continues to grow at an impressive rate. And most industry experts seem to think that the
proverbial sky is the limit in terms of where the marketplace could go. With long-time holdout and
industry juggernaut Nintendo finally releasing its first mobile title this year, perhaps we could be
witnessing the tipping point right in front of our eyes?

Your Kids' Favorite Video Games Will be Mobile

So can consoles start making a comeback in the gaming war? Only time will tell, of course, but the safe money seems to be on mobile eking out a victory. And availability, fun factor, price, and yes, even graphics, got it there. Mobile games are getting better than ever while giving up nothing in terms of accessibility, affordability, and convenience. Really, it's no wonder that they're redefining the marketplace in their image.

Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Samsung Galaxy S6: Comparison of the flagship Android phones

Japanese smartphone maker Sony recently launched its latest Android phone, the Xperia Z3+. With the latest Xperia, Sony is aiming to compete against its rival brands like Samsung, HTC, and LG in the flagship arena.

Micromax Canvas Spark -best impressions:
