Looking For Prisma Android? Don’t Get Tricked by Malicious Apps

On of the most popular app now a days “Prisma” is entertaining its users with its unique feature of transforming image into painted work of art. The app initially was launched for iOS devices only. After receiving great response by users the app officially launched for android versions on 24th July.

The huge following of Prisma on iOS created hype for android users to get this app on their devices. The cyber criminals took advantage to this and uploaded multiple cloned malicious applications on Google Play Store before the official release.

Most of the fake applications found on Google Play Store didn’t have any photo transformation functionality; instead they displayed pop up ads and fake survey to gather information about users, such as phone number, operator name, country name, language and so on. Some actually had very basic photo editing functionality, but mainly streams pop-up ads and displayed fake alerts regarding phone security and version updates. After that, the embedded Trojan would request and download a Phishing module asking their Google credentials in order to upgrade to Android 6.0.

The ESET researcher’s team has discovered fake Prisma apps of different types that include several dangerous Trojan downloaders. The Google Play security team removed them from the official Android store at ESET’s notice. Prior to that point, Prisma copycats reached over 1.5 million downloads by fans.

There are more chances that a user likely to fall into the trap as cyber criminals does their best to fool and trick users to download their malicious apps with convincing logos and icons. The ESET offers some advice for staying safe when downloading apps:

OurMine Hacked CEO of Google and Others

Earlier this month, we heard that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter, Instagram and Pineterest accounts got hacked by a hacker group “OurMine”. The hacker taunted “Hey @finkd we got access to your Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, we are just testing your security, please DM us”. This news revealed the major security breach into accounts of different celebrities.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has become the latest victim of this hacking group “OurMine” after his Twitter linked Quora account got compromised and filled with spam links and post.

After many spam posts on these accounts, this breach gone public as followed by many followers. OurMine group said it managed to breach Pichai’s account by exploiting Quora’s zero-day vulnerability. However, Quora has not responded yet on this flaw.

Surprisingly, OurMine has set up a website that displays a range of vulnerability scanning service and with a refund policy if the service didn’t work. In a short message they said “We are just testing people security, we never change their passwords, and we did it because there are other hackers who can hack them and change everything”.

It is believed that hackers are using the old exploited data dumps and also taking help from recent breaches and information leaks. The old passwords and credential that are still being used by many celebrities and individuals are the main factor behind these attacks.

A hacker “AlexPro” has exposed the hacker group “OurMine” by releasing the IP address and location they are operating from. It seems to be some Arabic people as traced location is Saudia Arab.

However, it is likely the team is using TOR and VPN to remain untraceable, as both are used to route internet traffic around the globe to hide the actual location.

On the rapid breaches on many social media sites, the Twitter spokesperson told the BBC: “A number of other online services have seen millions of passwords stolen in the past several weeks, and we know far too many people use the same password for multiple things online. We recommend people use a unique, strong password for Twitter”.

So it is highly recommended to use different passwords for all different accounts over internet to secure yourselves to some extent.

Google is Set To Launch its Background Play Service YouTube Red

Google is Set To Launch its Background Play Service "YouTube Red".

YouTube Sent the information to all companies that they have to agree to new terms by Oct. 22 or their “videos will no longer be available for public display or monetization in the United States,” helps support that timeline.

According to a report by Android Police, an update to the YouTube app includes text that describes a product called YouTube Red as the service that enables background playback, a feature that has long been restricted to Music Key (and Music Unlimited) subscribers.

For years, YouTube’s fans have been telling us they want more — more choice when watching their favorite content, more ways to support their favorite creators and, above all, the option to watch their favorite videos uninterrupted.
To give fans more choice we will be launching a new ads-free version of YouTube, available to fans for a monthly fee. This service will create a new source of revenue over time that supplements your advertising revenue. That’s why an overwhelming majority of our partners — representing over 95% of YouTube watchtime — have asked for and signed up for this service.
As you heard in our previous emails, we want to ensure that fans who choose to pay for an ads-free experience can watch all the same videos that are available on the ads-supported experience. That’s why we’re asking you to update your agreement to reflect the updated terms for the ads-free service.
To accept, simply log into YouTube.com as “pakafka” from a desktop or laptop and follow the prompts by October 22nd.
If you haven’t signed by that date, your videos will no longer be available for public display or monetization in the United States. That outcome would be a loss for YouTube, a loss for the thriving presence you’ve built on the platform, and above all, a loss for your fans. We remain committed to working with you, as we always have. And of course, at any time, you can accept the updated terms which will make your videos public and monetizable again. Common FAQs can be found here.
We believe these new terms will greatly strengthen our partnership for the future. We went through a similar process three years ago when we began distributing and monetizing your content on mobile devices. Today, mobile represents over half of all watchtime and mobile revenue is up 2x in just the last year. Just as with mobile, we’re confident this latest update will excite your fans and generate a previously untapped, additional source of revenue for you.

If you have questions or encounter technical difficulties, we’re here to help: reach out to us for support here.

Meet The New Google CEO Sundar Pichai

Meet The New Google CEO Sundar Pichai

Pichai had joined Google in 2004. He was the head of Google web browser Chrome, browser and Android mobile system profiles. As well as being largely responsible for Google Drive.

Its a good news for India. He studied Metallurgical Engineering at Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, INDIA. After that he received an M.S. from Stanford and obtained an MBA from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. At Wharton, Pichai was honored as a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar.

He was rumored to be one of the contenders for the CEO position of Microsoft in 2014. He was a Director of Jive Software from April 2011 to 30 July 2013.

According to Bloomberg Magazine.

"I used to come home and talk to him a lot about my work day and the challenges I faced," Regunatha Pichai told Bloomberg, adding that Sundar had a remarkable talent for remembering telephone numbers.

"Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I've been tremendously enjoying our work together," wrote Larry Page in his blogpost announcing all the big changes.

Larry page is chief executive and Sergey Brin as President of Google new company Alphabet.

According to Google blog,

“Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one.” As part of that, we also said that you could expect us to make “smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to our current businesses.” From the start, we’ve always strived to do more, and to do important and meaningful things with the resources we have.

We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those crazy things now have over a billion users, like Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. And we haven’t stopped there. We are still trying to do things other people think are crazy, but we are super excited about.

About Alphabet:
The alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products contained in Alphabet instead.

Alphabet Inc. will replace Google Inc. as the publicly-traded entity and all shares of Google will automatically convert into the same number of shares of Alphabet, with all of the same rights. Google will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alphabet. Our two classes of shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq as GOOGL and GOOG.

We are excited about…

  • Getting more ambitious things done.
  • Taking the long-term view.
  • Empowering great entrepreneurs and companies to flourish.
  • Investing at the scale of the opportunities and resources we see.
  • Improving the transparency and oversight of what we’re doing.
  • Making Google even better through greater focus.
  • And hopefully...as a result of all this, improving the lives of as many people as we can.

Erick Schmidt, Executive Chairman & former CEO tweeted.

Overall Sundar Pichai is the man behind Google new products.

So now register your Hindi blogs or website with Adsense and start to earn money online.

Google also launched new user consent policy last week.

According to report SmallBizTrends,

Google says the rules require consent when using products such as Google AdSense, DoubleClick for Publishers, and DoubleClick Ad Exchange. The company says the move is happening to reflect “regulatory and best practice guidance.”

“This requires that you obtain EU end users’ consent to the storing and accessing of cookies and other information, and to the data collection, sharing and usage that takes place when you use Google products.”
If your websites are getting visitors from any of the countries in the European Union, you must comply with the EU user consent policy.

“It does not affect any provisions on data ownership in your contract. If your site or app does not have a compliant consent mechanism, you should implement one now. To make this process easier for you, we have compiled some helpful resources at cookiechoices.org. This policy change is being made in response to best practice and regulatory requirements issued by the European data protection authorities. These requirements are reflected in changes that have been recently made on Google’s own websites.”
European Union data protection authorities requested some changes to current practices for obtaining end user consents. It has always been Google’s policy to comply with privacy laws, so we’ve agreed to make certain changes affecting our own products and partners using Google products.

Google launched Password Alert to Warn Users about Phishing Attempts

Google reported on Wednesday that it has launched a new tool Chrome extension which has been designed to identify and alert users while entering a password on a website pretending to be Google. It aims to warn customers about phishing attempts.

The extension is termed as Password Alert. It has been designed to protect Google and Google Apps for Work accounts. It works by warning the users when they enter their passwords on a fake website imitating as accounts.google.com to seize their login credentials. It then provides the time to change the password before it is exploited.

Password Alert for Chrome works by checking the HTML of the page to identify whether it is a legitimate Google sign-in page or not. According to Google, around 2 percent of the messages to Gmail are phishing attacks where attackers aim to trick consumers into giving up a password.

When Password Alert is installed and initialized, Chrome remembers a scrambled version of your Google account password. The information, retained for security purposes only, will then notify you if you type your password into a site that's not a Google login page.

The new Chrome extension works for both Google and Google Apps for Work that means this serves as an additional layer of security for Google’s enterprise clients. Password Alert is one of the major tools designed to safeguard users’ accounts. Among others are included two-step authentication and security key.

Furthermore, Google enables you to see all the devices that access your account, allowing you to change passwords or log out remotely from a single online dashboard.

The online security issue is becoming increasingly important. Recently SendGrid had been hacked via an employees work account. Target has also encountered a severe data breach including credit card details of millions of customers.

For Google for Work accounts, Password Alert needs to be installed by an administrator.

Google Ad Reseller is initiating Maladvertising Campaign

A large scale malvertising campaign has been observed by Cybersecurity firm Fox IT originating from all the Google advertisement services resold from Engagelab.com.

Engagelab.com appears to redirect its advertisement & zone ID’s to a domain, which in turn redirects to the Nuclear Exploit Kit, indicating a possible vandalism at this reseller of Google advertisement services. This Nuclear Exploit kit targets vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash, Oracle Java and Microsoft Silverlight software.

Source: FOX IT

Fox-IT observed the first redirect on April 7th 2015. The company has detected a significantly large amount of infections and infection attempts from this exploit kit among our customers.

It may be noted that malvertising involves malware concealed inside Internet-based ads that are usually pop-ups, banners else animated advertisements.

Now the users are facing probably the biggest ad poisoning ever made – all important ad services are affected. It means that users might get infected just by reading their favorite newspaper or by doing search on famous web indexers.

The security company has a suspicion that this malvertising campaign will be of a very large scale. Although, the firm is still is exerting its strength to identify the exact malware variant victims at use in the attacks.

The Fox IT liveblog affirms:
The domains for the exploit kit itself aren’t directly used for redirection; a secondary site is used as an intermediate. The domains and IP’s used for the exploit kit are constantly changing, to mitigate the threat for now we suggest blocking the website between the legitimate websites and the exploit kit.

Fox IT has observed the following domains for the Nuclear Exploit Kit:
banking.techpool.org
soaring.betsystemreviews.com
supervision.sactown.us

Fox IT has advocated an ad blocker, moreover updating Java, Silverlight and Flash to the latest versions to limit damage.

The firm proclaimed that Google has been notified of the issue.

Google Apps Bug Exposes some Users Data to be Public

According to a cadre of Cisco security researchers (via ArsTechnica), a Google Apps bug exposed some users' personal information in spite of those users opting to keep the data private. It made nearly 283,000 WHOIS registration records to be public.  The records may include names, home and email addresses, and phone numbers.

This is one of the most important issues for Google that the people are requesting for private domains. People desire for hiding domain information because they need more privacy to protect from phishing or other scams. (Phishing refers to the acquisition of a user's personal information by sending an e-mail professing as a trustworthy source).

Google Apps for Work used a third-party privacy provider called eNom that provides users the option to conceal their personal information for about $6 per year.

The Cisco team investigated that 305,925 domains are registered through registrar eNom and found that 94 percent were exposed until a fix being issue days after the private disclosure of the flaw.

"The reality of this WHOIS information leak is that it exposed the registration information of hundreds of thousands of registration records that had opted into privacy protection without their knowledge or consent to the entire internet," the team wrote.

Talos also said the leaked Google Domains info "will be available permanently, as a number of services keep Whois information archived."

"A security researcher recently reported a defect via our Vulnerability Rewards Program affecting Google Apps' integration with the eNom domain registration API," the spokesman said. "We identified the root cause, made the appropriate fixes, and communicated this with affected Apps customers. We apologize for any issues this may have caused."

Google stated that the records of the affected domains are now set back to being private and the issue will not upset any customer renewals in the months ahead. Google instantaneously pointed out that the data leak was restrained exclusively to the domain-registration information and nothing has been stored in Google Apps.

Google Launches New YouTube App For Kids

Google Launches New YouTube App For Kids.

The YouTube Kids app is designed for curious little minds to dive into a world of discovery, learning, and entertainment. This free app is easy to use and packed full of age-appropriate videos, channels and playlists. YouTube Kids features popular children’s programming, plus kid-friendly content from filmmakers, teachers, and creators all around the world.

The first Google product built from the ground up with little ones in mind. The app makes it safer and easier for children to find videos on topics they want to explore, and is available for free on Google Play and the App Store. YouTube Kids is currently available in the U.S. only.

Now Google is entering into the kids market. According to report, watching the video from Internet is increased by 87 percent.

Parental controls:
Google realize every family is different, so built options into the app that help you control the experience for your kids:

Timer:
Let the app be the bad guy with a built-in timer that lets you limit kids’ screen time. The app alerts your child when the session is over, so you don’t have to. (You’re welcome. ;) )
Sound settings: Sometimes you need a little peace and quiet! You have an option to turn off background music and sound effects, so your kids can keep watching while you catch a breather.

Search settings:
If you’d rather limit your children to just the pre-selected videos available on the home screen, you can turn off search.

Product feedback:
Our goal is to improve YouTube Kids all the time, so we’ve included a space for you to give us your feedback.

Google Is Going To Shutdown Helpouts Services On 20th April 2015

Google Is Going To Shutdown Helpouts Services On 20th April 2015.

Google announced that they are shutting down Helpouts. Helpouts connects people who need help with people who can give help over live video. Get help across multiple topics right from your PC or mobile device. Google Helpouts is an online collaboration service from Google launched Helpouts in November 2013 and allows users to share their expertise through live video.

According to Google blog.

"Saying "so long" to our Helpouts community.

We have some sad news to share: Helpouts will be shutting down on April 20, 2015.

Since launching in 2013, Helpouts has been a home for people to connect with experts on topics they want to learn about or seek advice and solutions to everyday challenges. The Helpouts community includes some engaged and loyal contributors, but unfortunately, it hasn't grown at the pace we had expected. Sadly, we've made the tough decision to shut down the product.

Starting April 20, you'll be able to download your Helpouts history using Google Takeout (available until November 1, 2015).

We want to thank our community for all their support — both the providers who shared their expertise with the world, and the people who needed some extra help or advice along the way. You've had a lot to contribute — and we've loved learning alongside you. "
